Abstract
185,746. Milliken, H. Sept. 6, 1921, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Dust-collectors.-Dust, &c. are separated from gas or air by causing the dust-laden current to impinge more or less squarely against surfaces at their edges, the current then travelling parallel to the surfaces at a reduced velocity and depositing the dust &c. on the surfaces before being. redirected with an increased velocity prior to further impacts. Figs. 1 and 3 show a separator in which the gas entering at the end 22 is deflected by curved vanes 16 against the edges of collecting-plates 17 on which the dust &c. is deposited, sliding down their inclined surfaces through a perforated wall into a collecting-chamber partitioned by plates 14 and having a door 24. Baffles 25 prevent air disturbance within the chamber. Hammers 18 on a shaft 19 strike the casing to prevent caking. The air after passing through the first set of plates 17 is deflected oppositely with increased velocity against the next set. In a modification, the successive sets of vanes are aligned obliquely within the casing, and are all curved in the same direction. Several apparatus may be employed in series, the separated dust passing down out of contact with the air either by an external passage, or, through internal passages 21, Fig. 4, formed by oppositely curved vanes.
