Starting, facilitating.-An auxiliary pump b is combined with a centrifugal pump a to remove air from the suction side c as described in Specification 167,486, and the pipe e which connects the delivery side of the auxiliary pump b to the reservoir f is provided with a hand-operated valve a. By adjusting this valve, the pressure in the pipe e can be raised to prevent water from passing from the pump a to the pump b through the clearance spaces.
