Abstract
182,261. Warner & Co. (Engineers), Ltd., R., Lovett, W. H., and Dobbs, A. E. April 28, 1921. Combined fluid-actuated and mechanical gears. - In steam-engines for direct-acting pumps, &c., wherein the main valve is tappetactuated by an auxiliary cylinder moving in a fixed piston which cylinder is moved the first part of its stroke mechanically and the last part by fluid-pressure, and which itself controls the auxiliary distribution, the valve face upon which the cylinder moves is out of contact with and is separate from the seat of the distributing-valve. The cylinder c contains an adjustable, stationary piston p, slides upon seats f separate from the main valve seat h, and has direct admission parts i, j which alternately, upon the reciprocation of the cylinder, communicate with the interior of the valve-chest and an auxiliary exhaust port l communicating with the mainexhaust through ports k in the main valve. A stop m limits the main-valve movement, and the cylinder flange c<3> is constructed and the piston p mounted so as to facilitate the removal of the parts. The valve d has a pin n loosely engaging a recess in a cylinder flange for this purpose. The rod o may be moved by the linkage mechanism described in Specification 13977/04.
