Abstract

Oscillating cylindrical values; fluid-actuated gears ; tappet gears.-The distribution is effected by an oscillating cylindrical valve having an admission recess d<3> and a central exhaust passage d<2> communicating with the circumference by passages d<1>. The valve motion is effected by fluidpressure or tappet mechanism. In the fluidpressure device shown in Fig. 1. the casing is provided with a stationary abutment mounted in a segmental recess d<5> in the valve, and auxiliary distributing-ports c<2>, c<1>. The piston is recessed at b<1>. When the piston in its motion to the right reaches the position shown in Fig. 3, the right and left hand parts of the chamber are put to exhaust and fluid-pressure respectively, and the valve is reversed. In a modification, the ports c<2> are dispensed with, the piston grooved annularly, and the oscillation effected by auxiliary pistons mounted in the chamber d<5>. In a further modification, rectangular sliding pieces are used in lieu of the auxiliary pistons, and two transverse grooves in lieu of the recess, which communicate with the atmosphere at each end of the piston stroke. In the tappet mechanism, Fig. 7, a pin b<3> on the piston-rod oscillates a lever i to move the valve, by means of a slotted link l<1>.
