Periodic-counter and like speed indicators with recording apparatus.-In gas, liquid, or electricity consumption-recording meters in which at regular intervals there is a return to an initial or zero posivice is held throughout tion, the marking-dethe registration period at the position corresponding with the consumption in the previous period, and at the end of the period takes up its new setting without returning to zero. The meter rotates, through pinion b, a spring-controlled gear wheel a provided with a pin c to engage and drive a recording arm d secured to a spring-controlled ratchet wheel i. At the end of a period, a pawl g is withdrawn to free the arm d so that, if the consumption has been less than during the preceding period, the arm may return into contact with pin c. The pawl then again engages and the meter connection is interrupted to allow the wheel a with the pin c to return to the initial position ready for a new actuation. The recording may be effected by printing, and the recording-mechanism may be self-contained and independently driven under control of the meter. The recording-instrument may be connected alternately with two separate meters such as a watthour and a wattless consumption meter.
