[Class 106 (i) The advance of the units wheel of a step-by-step counter is effected by spring power acting through ratchet mechanism during the return movement of an operating lever, a centrifugal governor or other brake being provided to control the advance. The operating lever 29 is rocked anticlockwise and is connected by a shaft 28 to an arm 31 which engages an abutment 32 on a lever 23, 24. A pawl 22 is thus moved over the teeth of a ratchet wheel 13 secured to a shaft 2 to the opposite end of which is attached a wheel 10 driving the units drum 3 through a pinion 11. When the operating lever 29 is returned, a spring 26 restores the lever 23, 24 and drives the counter through the ratchet wheel 13. A wheel 12 is also secured to the shaft 2 and is connected through gearing 14, 15, 17 to the shaft 18 of a centrifugal governor 20 to control the speed of actuation of the counter.
