Abstract

181,581. Strauss, T. O. May 17, 1921. Driving-mechanism; centrifugal governors; fluid relays.-An arrangement for preventing racing of marine engines comprises a steam relay cylinder 10 to which the supply and exhaust of working fluid is controlled bv a valve 14 actuated by a speed governor 32, and a piston 11 attached by a rod K firstly to the piston of a hand-controlled relay L and secondly through links I, J to the valve gear G, F, for operating the latter. The governor is driven from the main shaft D by gearing 31, 39 and, its support being pivoted about the point 49, it can be swung out of operation by the link 52 and lever 53. Hand operation of the valve gear is effected by a lever N controlling a valve M for the relay L after opening the by-pass 15 for the cylinder 10.
