Abstract

180,468. Ballard, S. March 18, 1921. Powder distributors.-Apparatus for spraying insecticides and like powders on to fruit trees &c., comprises a wheeled truck b on which is mounted a small petrol or paraffin engine a. The truck may be drawn by hand or animal power or may be propelled by gearing from the engine. The exhaust gases from the engine are conveyed through a pipe e ending with a larger pipe d in an injector nczzle, the pipe d being continued slightly diminished in diameter and terminating in a branch piece h to which flexible hoses i are attached. Powder contained in a hopper e is kept agitated by a vane wheel g which may be driven by gearing from the engine, and passes down through a rotary feed box k fitted with a revolving brush or roller and having an adjustable outlet to ensure an even feed, and enters the pipe d adjacent to the nozzle of the pipe c through a branch pipe f. A pressure cbamber fitted with a gauge may be interposed between the engine and the injector nozzle so that the engine speed may be regulated to produce an even pressure.
