Abstract

179,284. Brown, H. N. Feb. 1, 1921. Spring wheels. - A spring wheel has plates 9, 18, Fig. 2, sliding on keys or castellations 1 on the hub. The rim 7 is carried by plates 6. Conical seatings 15 are carried by the plates 6, 9, 18. and balls 19 are placed between opposite conical seatings so that when the plates 9, 18 are forced apart bv resilient means 12 the rim is held concentric with the hub. Flanges 4 on the hub guide the plates 6, and a packing 20 between the plates 4, 6 may be used. In a modification, Fig. 4, the rim 25 is carried on plates 22 bearing on the hub, and circumferential channels forming wedge surfaces and engaged by balls 31 are formed on the plates 22, 26. The springs may be positioned bv studs in the sliding plates. In further modifications, the fixed plates may be carried on the hub, the sliding plates being carried by the rim.
