Abstract

179,281. Gibson, H. C. Feb. 1, 1921. Vehicle l a m p s ; mounting electric lamps in lanterns.- A head-light having a mirror 2 at the back of the light source 1, has a second mirror 3 arranged over the top of the light source with or without extensions down the sides to reflect light down on to the road, together with a transparent or translucent base 4. The light source 1 is movable up and down by a bell-crank lever 11, actuated by a Bowdenwire mechanism 13, engaging a pin 10 on the lamp-holder 8. A spring 14 acts between the underside of the pin 10 and the guide 9. By raising the light source 1 the light beam is thrown down on the road to prevent glare. A pair of cylindrical lenses 6 attached to the rear of the front glass 5 with their axes vertical spread out the light into an horizontal fan-shaped beam.
