Abstract

178,757. John, W. N. June 20, 1921. Attachments for tapping.-Reversible tapping chucks consist of a split casing 10, secured by a screw cap 12 and ring 17. An extension 13 on the cap receives the boss 14 of an internal gear 15, a shank 16 being screwed into the-boss. Shafts 23, mounted in the casing, carry pinions 25 engaging the gear 15, and pinions 22 engaging a gear 21 loosely mounted on a shaft 20, which has axial freedom of movement and carries a clutch 26. The upward or downward pressure of a tool secured to shaft 20 engages the clutch with either of the gears 15 or 21. An arm 27 prevents rotation of the casing.
