Abstract

178,552. Shirley, F. J. Jan. 18, 1921. Folding boxes.-Relates to means for reinforcing the side and end walls in boxes of the type described in Specifications 162,362 and 162,598. Flaps 7, Fig. 3, depend from the inner marginal edge of one or more sides of the skeleton frame 5, and may reach to the bottom @3. They may have feet 72 and be prevented from inward movement by lugs 8 turned up from the bottom. Separate reinforcing-pieces 9 with over-turned edges 91 are inserted to strengthen the ends; they are held against inward movement by the edges of the flaps 7, and lugs stamped up at their ends serve to prevent inward movement of the free ends of the flaps. As shown in Fig. 4 the positions of the parts on the blank may be interchanged, such a blank being folded as shown in Fig. 5; the depending strip 70 is in this form not integral with the skeleton frame 5, but the connecting-strip 73 is situated to the rear marginal part of the frame.
