Abstract

Actuated or applied by speed governors and by engine or motor stopping or controlling appliances.-A centrifugal shaft-governor controlling the steam admission and a band brake engaging a drum on the shaft comprises spring-controlled, guided jaws 4 provided with inclined circular grooves on one side which engage a spring-controlled disc 6 slidable longitudinally on the shaft to actuate rollers 10 on arms 8 rigid with a shaft 9 carrying levers 11, 12 connected to the admission valve and band brake respectively. The lever 12 is connected by a link 13 to a cam 15 which engages and moves a similar cam 20 on a shaft 16 connected by a link 18 to the band brake 19. The other end of the brake band is pivoted to the engine frame by a screw and sleeve connection 22, 24 made adjustable to take up wear.
