Abstract

177,454. Frommer, R. von. July 18, 1921. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates; to automatic pistols and other small-arms of the kind having a fixed barrel and a recoiling breechblock carried by a slide which surrounds the barrel. According to the invention, the breechblock is adapted to be inserted in the slide from the rear and to be secured b a cap fastened by a bayonet-joint. In the construction shown, the barrel 2 has lugs 3 fitting in grooves in the breech-frame 1 and is held down by the slide 5 which is guided on the frame by ribs and grooves. The breech-block 9 is inserted into the slide from the rear and is held by a cap 10 fitting over the rear end of the slide and fastened by a bayonetjoint. The cap is locked by the tail 15 of the extractor 13, Fig. 2. The cap 10 may be formed with a cowl 22, Fig. 12, enclosing the hammer. A sliding catch 17, Fig. 15, at the side of the frame is adapted to engage a recess 18 in the slide to hold it in its retracted position to facilitate disassembling. The catch is automatically operated by the cartridge lifter when the magazine is empty.
