JOSEPH DECLAYE, OF LIEGE, BELGIUM.
REPEATING OR AUTGMATC RIFLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
patented Mar. '7, 1922.
Application filed September 10, 1920. Serial No. 409,380.
T all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH DECLAYE, a
subject of the King of Belgium, and resident of Liege, Belgium, 32'Rue Adolphe Borgnet, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Repeating or Automatic titles; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked therein, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to repeating or automatic rifles.
The main object of the invention is to produce a device which is easy to make, to assemble, 'to take to pieces,and to inspect.
Other and ancillary objects of the invention will appear liereinafter.
Y`recording to this invention all the parts of the gun-lock and of the safety devices may be held by lugs on the cartridge magazine. The magazine may be 'fastened at both ends to the breech which'may be formed inv the rear part of the barrel itself.
According` to the structure shown in the drawings, the cooking device is located in the breech block and comprises a hollow pin or tube provided with a collar or shoulder at its front end. This collar is engaged in the breech block and held by a special nut, while the rear end of the ytube projects at the rear 0f the breech block in order to have a knob fastened on it. The initial cooking action is accomplished by pulling the knob, and after the same has been released, the cocking tube is pressed forward by a helical spring which acts against the shoulder of the tube and holds it in its forward position.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an application of the invention.
In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a rifle showing the cocking device in its normal position:
Fig. 2 shows the relation of the parts when the cocking knob is at the rear end of its stroke;
Fig. 3 is an analogous section when the striker pin is cocked and the cocking tube is back to its normal position;
Fig. 4: shows in perspective the magazine and its lugs to support the gun-lock and the safety devices;
Fig.Y 5 shows in perspective the assembly of the magazine withtlie gun-lock' device; and
F ig. `6 shows in perspective the ,bracket used to fasten the magazine to the rear of the breech block. I
rl`he tubular magazine 1 is provided with lugs 2,- 3 and 24 on which theYgun-lock yand the safety devices are mounted.
The front part of the magazine xed" to the breech block by means ofa dovetailed block 4t engaged in a corresponding` groove of the barrel, and a nut G screwedon the rod 4 extending from and secured to the block 4 and passing through the magazine foot 7 Vand the stock 8.
At its rear end, the magazine is fastened of a bracket 10p to the breech-block by means Y separately shown in Fig. 6. The bracket 10 projects from a hole formed in the breech block 12 and is provided with flanges 13 en gaged in a circular groove milled inside the breech-block and preventing theV bracket from turning. p
The magazine 1 is fastened to the bracket by means of a pin engaged in the holes 14 of the bracket and 15 of the lugs 3 and 24 of the magazine. q
Fig. 5 illustrates a gun-lock device mounted on the magazine showed in F ig. el. This device comprises a trigger 17 pivoted at 16 on the lugs 3 and 24 and lever 1S borne by the said trigger and acting on the sear 19 which isalso pivoted on the lugsgand 24. The magazine further carries a lever 22 pivoted at 21 on the lug 2 of the magazine and perfecting the gun-lock device illustrated only by way of example.
The safety device may act on the sear 19 and comprises, as is usual, a rod having a recess and actuated by a spring.
The safety and the gun-lock devices .are entirely mounted on the maga-zine. The safety rod is located in the holes 23 of the lugs 3 and 24, and the safety spring is located in an appropriate hole drilled in a piece fastened to the magazine.
The breech-block 12 is formed in a prolongation of thev barrel and contains the striking and locking devices.
The firing device comprises a firing-pin 25 actuated by the striker 26; the latter engages the Vbreech-bolt nut 3l when the` knob is pulled.
When the shouldered tube hasbeen pulled to the end of its stroke, (see F ig. 2) the.
sear nose 32, is ahead of the catch of the striker 26 and ready to catch it. If the knob 30 is then released7V the striker is pushed by theV helical spring and is immediately caught'by the Sear-nose 32 While the shouldered tube 28 is brought forward to its initial position by the helical springs 33 and 34. The said shouldered tube 28 is kept from moving back and forth during firing by the helical spring 34.
The striker spring 35 which pushes at the back ot the vstriker 26, rests at its other end against a rod 36 located in a groove of the nut 38 closing the rear end of the breech block l2. The rod 36 passes through two longitudinal and diametrically opposed slots 37 in the tube 28.
Vhile the invention has been illustrated in what is considered its best application it mayV have other embodiments without departing from its spirit and is not therefore limited to the structures shown in the draw- Vao ings.
What I claim is:
l. A repeating or automatic small-arm comprising in combination a stock, a magazine and a gun-lock mounted on said magazine.
2. A repeating or automatic small-arm comprising a magazine provided with lugs arranged to bear the whole gun-lock and the safety devices; a dovetailed'block fixed to the barrel or'breach and sustaining the said magazine at its front end, andabracket passing through a hole drilled 'through the Wall of the rear part of the breechblockY and sustaining the magazine at its rear end.
3. A repeating or automatic small-arm comprising a magazine provided with lugs, arranged to bear the whole gun-lock and the safety devices a dovetailed block fixed to the breech and sustaining the said magazine at its front end, and a bracket sustaining the said magazine at its rear end and passing through the wall of the rear part ofthe breech-block, this breech-block being shaped in the mere prolongation of the barrel.
4. A repeating or automatic small-arm comprising a breech-block,a collared or shouldered tube arranged in fthe rear part of the said breech-block and projecting at the rear of the same to receive a knob, a collar disposed at the front end of the said tube and engaged in the breech bolt which slides, when tiring, on said tube; this collar being so arranged that the breech-bolt may be pulled with the knob.
5. lA repeating or automatic small-arm comprising a breech-block, a collared tube arranged in the. rear part of the said breech block and projecting at the rear of the Same to receive a knob; a collar disposed at the front end of said tube and engaged in the breech-bolt which slides7 when firing, on said tube,` this collar being so arranged that the breech-bolt may be' pulled with the knob; and a helical spring acting forwardly againstthe said collar to hold the said collared tube in its forward position.
6. A repeating or automatic small-arm Y vVitnesses:
