Plants, treatment of growing.-An apparatus for artificially fertilizing plants consists of a water vessel a heated bv a burner b and containing a pump d with delivery pipes f, f<1>, and suction pipes g, g<1> connected to flexible or other pipes F, G with bell-mouthed ends H, K. The flowers to be treated are placed between the parts H, K, and the pump being operated, the pollen is sucked from the flowers and drawn through the pipes G, g, g<1>. Finely-divided substances, such as talc or ash impregnated with iron sulphate or lead arsenate, are placed in a chamber l, and passing into the pump through the valve m, mix with the warm air and the pollen, which is carried through the pipes f, f<1>, F to the part H, and thence projected upon the pistils of the flowers. The apparatus may be fitted with shoulder-straps, or may be placed on a truck &c.
