Abstract
932,411. Catching blood from a slaughtered animal. G. MAUCHER. Jan. 16, 1962 [Jan. 24. 1961], No. 1507/62. Class 28 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] Apparatus for catching blood from a slaughtered animal and mixing the blood with a solution of anticoagulant comprises a blood catching and mixing unit 7, Fig. 1, for attaching to the animal, a blood collecting-tank 10 to which the unit is connected by a flexible outlet pipe 2 for the blood and a flexible pipe 1 for the supply to the unit of anticoagulant, such as a solution of the sodium salt of a polymeric phosphoric acid; in the arrangement shown, the pipe 1 for the anticoagulant is the inner of two concentric pipes. The catching and mixing of the blood are performed under suction produced by a pump 14, moisture being collected in an air tank 11 with which an air filter (not shown) may be associated. The unit 7 shown in Figs. 2 and 3 has a transparent casing 7a, rubber cushioning 8 and hooks 9. A wire loop 4 is first inserted into the animal's wound and is then turned through about 90 degrees by a handle 6 to increase the flow of blood. The turning causes gripping hooks 5 to open into the animal, as shown in Fig. 3, and also the release of the closure 3 for the pipes 1 and 2. The quantity of anticoagulant solution provided is regulated by screw adjustment of a conical pin 3b. The cross-sections of the pipes 1 and 2 should correspond approximately to the proportions of the anticoagulant solution, and blood and anticoagulant solution respectively.
