Securing turbine rotors on shafts.-To secure a turbine rotor 6 to a shaft 5 a ring 10 is interposed which is shrunk on the shaft and secured by a key 13 thereto. The rotor is bored to fit on the ring 10 and a series of radial dowel pins 11 or the like connects the rotor and the ring to transmit the torque while still allowing their relative expansion when temperature changes occur. The ring and the motor are in contact only over a small area owing to a groove 12 which is cut in the ring or rotor or both, while the ring is in close contact with the shaft over the whole area in contact. Consequently, transfer of heat is retarded from the rotor to the ring, but not from the ring to the shaft. The ring 10 may be extended to carry packing 16 for the adjacent diaphragm 8, and this extension facilitates the rapid transfer of heat from the ring to the shaft.
