Abstract

176,846. Ricardo, H. R. Nov. 15, 1920. Regulating.-In aircraft engines having high compression ratio, the working charges are diluted with inert gases at decreasing altitudes and at ground level to prevent an increase in the maximum working pressures developed at high altitudes. According to the construction shown in Fig. 2, exhaust gases are fed through a tube D<1> to a carburettor A, the supply of exhaust gas being controlled by a valve E actuated by hand or by a barometric device. The supply of exhaust gas is cut off at altitudes approximating 12,000ft. and is a maximum at ground level.
