Abstract
176,301. Russel, E. W. Nov. 29, 1920. Vaporizers, external.-In an engine in which light and hea y fuel mixtures may be supplied separately, o@ in combination to the induction pipe, as desribed in Specification 176,118, the throttle valve also controls additional air to which exhaust gates may be added. Light and heavy fuel reservoirs 1, 2, Fig. 1, supply separate nozzles, as described in Specification 176,118, and the air tules around the nozzles discharge into a horizontal part connected with a pipe 3 containing baffles 5 and passing through the exhaustpipe 4. The pipe 3 is, at the end 30, divided longitudinally at 31 to provide rich mixture and extra air passages, both controlled by a throttle valve 29, the extra air inlet being provided with an adjustable flap 32. The throttle valve is pivoted in the plane of the dividing partition 31. Above the pipe 30 is an adjustable choke tube 3. A by-pass recess controlled by a screw may be provided below the choke tube, the lower surface of which may conform approximately to that swept out by the edge of the throttle valve. Exhaust gases may be admitted to the extra air intake by a valved pipe 39. In a modification, the rich mixture pipe 47, Fig. 4, passes through a gland 4S and a, perforated air inlet cap 49, and is suirounded by a choke tube 33 loaded by a spring 44 adjustable by a ring 45. The choke tube is actuated by suction, its lower position being determined by a stop 46 on the pipe 47 which may be adjustable. Light fuel may be supplied to the induction pipe through a valved passage 41, at starting.
