Abstract

176,172. Buck, A. E. Dec. 17, 1920. Variable-speed gearing comprises an adjustable linkage and screw and detent gearing. A driving crank a, Fig. 1, oscillates a lever c about a fixed pivot d. A block e slidable from end to end of the lever c is connected by a rod g to a cross-head f, which is reciprocated with variable throw along the driven shaft h. Inside the cross-heads are nuts k, k<1>, Figs. 2 and 3, of steep pitch of opposite hand which are caused to work alternately, driving the shaft h continuously in one direction. The outer ends of the nuts k, k<1> have ratchet teeth l adapted to engage detents on the cross-head.
