Abstract
175,404. Selvey, W. M., and Morshead, L. R. Nov. 15, 1920. Refrigerating, absorption machines for.-In a plant comprising an air-cooled dynamo, a main steam engine, and an auxiliary steam engine, the exhaust steam of the auxiliary engine is employed in an absorption refrigerating apparatus which cools the air used for cooling the dynamo. The condensate of the condenser of the main engine may also be warmed by heat from the refrigerating-apparatus. In the form shown, the dynamo b, driven by a turbine a, is cooled by air which passes around a circuit comprising ducts in the dynamo, a fan f and cooling channels in a refrigerating chamber d which has ammonia absorption vessels g, g<1> and a condensing vessel h. c is an auxiliary engine, the exhaust steam from which is directed at i alternately to the vessels g, g<1>. The ammonia passes under pressure from the vessel h through the air-cooling chamber d to the other vessel g or g<1> in the usual manner. By means of pipes l, l<1>, l<2>, n some or all of the turbine condensate from the condenser k may be lead to cooling coils in the absorbing vessels g, g<1> or in the condensing vessel h, either in series or in parallel, or directly through the vessel h to the feed water heater m. Water or air coolers may be employed in the air system between the dynamo and the vessel d. Specification 174,693, [Class 35, Dynamo-electric generators &c.], is referred to.
