Abstract

1,141,105. Steam condensers; power plant. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 5 Jan., 1967 [17 March, 1966], No. 630/67. Heading BIB. Exhaust steam from turbine 1 is partially condensed by contact with water sprayed from jets 6 in condenser 2, and the residual steam is condensed in tubular air-cooled condenser 8 disposed in cooling-tower 10 through which air is drawn by fan 11. Part of the water collected in the hot well 3 of condenser 2 is supplied to the boiler, and the remainder is pumped through loop 5 to heat exchanger or jet water cooler 7 in the cooling-tower 10. The cooled water is then supplied to the jets 6. The water collected in the well 9 of air-cooled condenser 8 is pumped to the last jets of condenser 2. The tubes of heat exchangers 7, 8 may be provided with helical fins.
