Abstract
175,150. Globe Pneumatic Engineering Co., Ltd., Andrew, J. D., and Hughes, J. Dec 14,1920. Cooling liquids.-Heated water from an aircompressor or similar apparatus flows into a tun-dish 2, open at the top so that a certain amount of air is drawn in with the water, to effect a preliminary cooling thereof. The water then passes to an inverted tun-dish 4 and escapes through slots 10 therein, into a container 5, being deflected so as to pass up the inner face of the container and then falling through perforations 12 in a corrugated run 11. The container 5 is jacketed to provide for the circulation of cooling- water, which enters by a pipe 8 and escapes over the rim 9 of the jacket 6, mixing with the cooled water and falling in fine streams to a tank beneath the apparatus. The extended surface of the stream of water exposed to the air produces further cooling. A pipe 13 is provided for draining the inner container when necessary. In a modification, Fig. 4, the tun-dish 4 is divided into two portions 4<a>, 4b by a partition 4<1>. The liquid to be cooled is received in the lower portion 4<b>, passing through the slots 10 and up the passage 15, and cooling-liquid passes from the outer jacket 7 into portion 4a and overflows as in the other construction. A number of stepped rims may be provided at varying heights around the outer container 6 to break up the streams of water and to assist the cooling.
