Abstract

174,832. McDonald, J. A. Dec. 14, 1920. Nuts; locking nuts.-The scarf ends of railway rails are tied together by bolts 30 secured by nuts, Fig. 7, having a ratchet 32, a flange 33, an annular groove 34 and a square &c. portion 35. This nut is locked by a swivelling washer 44, Fig. 8, having an opening 45 to pass over the portion 35, a recess 43 for the flange 33, and a pawl 42. A notch 41 is engaged by one end 48, Fig. 9, of a spring 46, the other end 47 being inserted in a notch 31 on the threaded end of the bolt. The washer may also be swivelled on the nut permanently.
