Abstract

Alkali cyanides are produced by passing hydrochloric acid, or gases containing it, into a solution of an alkali salt mixed with lime, the acid radical of the salt being one that forms an insoluble calcium salt. Sodium carbonate and sulphate are suitable, and it is preferred to use a small excess of lime.
