Building-blocks, special shapes of.-Hollow walls are formed by combining two kinds of ribbed blocks, one kind having an intermediate pair of vertical locking ribs 7, Fig. 6, and the other kind having only end ribs 11. The ribs contact and are shaped to form dovetailed vertical spaces 26, 28. Concrete is cast in the spaces 26, or precast columns of rectangular section, Fig. 9, may be first erected and the slabs built around them and secured by keys 27 or grouting. Fig. 10 shows a buttress. The faces 9 of the ribs may be at right angles or inclined to the slab portion. The vertical and bed joints are displaced on opposite sides of the wall.
