of the air space to receive the binder therein, each of SEtlClblOCliS having a facing arranged beyond one of the edges and one of the ends thereof and projecting beyond the other edge and end the projectingportions being of a length greater than-the distance d between the edges of the facings and the blocks, so that a suitable space for a binder will be arranged between the confronting ends of the courses of blocks, whereby no binder need be employed between the contacting edges and ends of the facings of the blocks in the several courses of the wall.
A further object is the production of a building block which is so constructed and arranged in courses by persons not particularly skilled in masonry or bricklaying.
A still further object is a building construction in which no mortar or similar binder will appear between the joints on the outer faces of the blocks that constitute the same, wherein a dead air space is provided between the inner and outer faces of the blocks, and whereby a strong and dampproof wall can be easily. erected in a substantial manner.
A further object is the construction of a building in which blocks of a similar size and shape are employed, the only exception being in the outer ends of the corner blocks. the construction being such as to permit of the wall being constructed from either the center or the corners thereof the size and construction of the blocks permitting of the arrangement of one of the blocks between any two or more of the blocks or laid in courses.
The foregoing, and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts, such as is disclosed as to permit of the same being laid understood.
by the drawings which accompany and which form partof this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective'viewof a portion of a building constructedwith blocks in accordance with thisinventionI Figure 2 is'a sectional View taken centrally of one of' the openings providing a door or window-way betweenthe courses of blocks. "g
igure 3 is a sectional view 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure at is a perspective view looking toward the inner face of one of the blocks. I
Figure 5 is asimilar view looking toward the outer face of the block.
Figure 6 is a perspective View on the line looking toward one end of-or'ie of the corner blocks.
'Figure 7 is a-similar view'looking toward the'opposite end of the corner block.
Figure 8 is a similar view looking'toward the bottom of the corner blo'ckl x l i Figure 9 's a perspective viewof the corner block for the courses to be erected next to the corner blockfillustr'ated in Figures 6,'7 and 8; 4
Figure 10 is'a similar view but-looking toward the opposite? side of the block.
In erecting a wall or building with plastic block's constructed in accordance with this invention, a suitable'concrete foundation l is laid. The concrete; at the upper and outer edge thereof is formed with a depressed p'ortionpthe lower wall of which is indicated by the numeral 3' and'the side wall by the numeral i, and the purpose of this arrange- 'ment of the foundation will be presently My improved building blocks may be reinforced, if desired, and while the same are preferably constructed of concrete the same may beforrned of clay which vis baked in the usual manner.
Except-for the corner blocks, all of the blocks aresimilarly constructed, and the only difference between the corner blocks of the superimposed courses is at the outer ends thereof and the arrangement of the facings which project from the body of the blocks upon the opposite sides of the said corner blocks.
When constructed of concrete, the blocks are formed in a suitable mold and each of the blocks is of a similar size and shape throughout.
Therefore, a description of one of the
