BRICK R BUILDING-BLOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 2S, 1921.
` Application filed November 19, 1917. Serial No. 202,697'.v
T 0 all whom t may concer/ii Be it known that'l, JEAN EiiNnsT Kinrnn, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at No. 13 Avenue de la Harpe, in Lausanne, Switzerland, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Bricks or Building-Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
This yinvention has for its object to pro- `l0 vide an improved hollow brick or building block of the type specified in the specification of my earlier application for patent, Serial No. 194,819, filed October 4, 1917. The improved brick forming the subject matter of the present invention, while rei taining the'feature that it has at least one face or side shaped in the form of an S composed of equal limbs, is distinguished by the feature that it is divided into two parts.
Three constructional forms of the improved brick of the present invention are illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figures 1 and 2 arerespectively an elevation and a plan of a brick as specified in my aforesaid specification.
Figs. 3 and 5 are respectively an elevation and a plan of one of the parts of a first constructional form of an improved V brick according to the present invention.
Figs. 4 and 6 are respectively an elevation and a plan of the other part of the said constructional form.
Figs. 7 and 8 are respectively an elevation and a plan of a seco-nd constructional form,
and
Figs. 9 and 10 are respectively an elevation and a plan of a third constructional form.
Fig. 11 is a horizontal section of a perpend wall composed ofthe two parts of the first constructional form.
Figs. 12 and 13 are horizontal sections of structures composed Arespectively of the three constructional forms forming the features of the present invention and of the first constructional form and corner bricks as specified in my companion application, Serial No.'194819.
The brick shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is that described in my aforesaid specification; it has two faces or sides shaped in the form of an S having two equal symmetrical limbs, and it has three cavities extending right through it.
T he first improved constructional form according to the present invention shown in Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6, has also two sides or faces in the shape of an S having equal symmetrical limbs, but it is divided into two parts Z) and 0 by a middle joint that extends from one S-shaped side to the other S-shaped side. It has only two cavities f.
The second improved constructional form fZ-shown in Figs. 7 and 8, has a single face or side L of S shape with equal limbs and three cavities 7; on the opposite side to the S-shaped face it has a solid portion g with a ledge c'. This solid portion can constitute the frame of a door opening.
The third improved vconstructi'onal forni e shown in Figs. 9 and 1() has two flat upper and lower surfaces and two faces 7L of S shape with equal limbs, which however instead of being symmetrical are arranged with the concave portion of one S opposite the convex portion of the other S. It has threecavities formed by partitions arranged eccentrically to the axis of the block and parallel to the flat faces thereof.
Fig. 11 shows a perpend wall composed of the two parts of the first improved constructional form yarranged side by side.
Fig. 12 shows a'corner of two walls of a thickness equal to that of two bricks, and constructed with the three improved constructional forms of the present invention, as well as with bricks a and Z2 of the kind specified in my aforesaid specification. The J constructional form (Z serves to vform the frame of a door opening. One of the blocksd shown is longer than the other. The corner of the two walls is reinforced by means of reinforcing iron bars m embedded in concrete Z.
Fig. 13 shows a wall of the thickness of 1% bricks composed of the first improved constructional form of the prese-nt invention, and of the brick a described in my aforesaid specification. n
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1 1. Hollow half bricks or building blocksy having sides of equal length and so shaped that when the equal sides are placed together they form a brick or block having at least one face or side shaped as an S with equal limbs. Y
2. A hollow brick or building'block having at least one face or side shaped as an yS With equal limbs and comprising a solid portion constituting a jamb for a. door opening and a ledge to receive the door frame when placed in position.
3. A Wall built of hollow bricks or build-r ing blocks comprising half bricks or blocks,
Y having sides of equal length7 so shaped that When placed together they form :t brick or block having at least one face or side shaped as :in S Withrequal limbs, bricks or blocks, each of which has two kS shaped faces or In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
