This invention relates to improvements 1n wall construction wherein the wall, instead of being solidly formed, consists of a concrete building block section, the blocks of which have lateral spacing webs associated with a contiguously laid brick veneering wall section bonded thereto, and the complete structure providing a sectionally built hollow wall, of maximum strength and desired thickness, with unobstructed vertical passages or air ducts throughout the same.
The invention resides wholly in the combined wall construction itself, no claim being made to any of its constituent elements as dissociated therefrom, and from the following description, the novelty of the improved structure, as a whole, and its objects and advantages being so clearly apparent, it is thought that a further initial statement thereof would only be unnecessary, as the invention will be fully understood after reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a detail perspective view of an illustrative type of concrete block adapted for;1 use in my improved Wall construction, an

The concrete block, as illustrated in detail at Fig. 1, comprises a flat base l having a pair of lateral projecting spacing webs 2 and 3, located at positions interiorly distant from the ends of said base, the said base being otherwise devoid of projections. As shown, the web 3 is provided with a recess or pocket 4, at its upper end,'of a formation congruent with the width and thickness of the bricks of the veneering section. A satisfactory method of providing this recessed pocket, in molding the blocks, is to simply omit a part of the upper portion of the desired webs.

As shown at the left of Fig. 2, these header bond bricks 7 are laid flush with and between the adjacent bricks in the same course or row and project beyond the inner surface of the brick wall, with their projecting portions fitting the recesses 4, or their equivalents, and as they are interposed throughout the wall at proper intervals they serve, as single elements, the multiple functions of being an actual component part of the brick wall itself, as well as a bonding means between the brick wall'and the spaced concrete block wall, and, in association with the blind bonds 6, lend to the veneer Wall of brick the effect of a thickened and fully bonded structure, a desired end in the construction of esthetic appearing buildings. Of course, the header bricks 7 are held secure in bonded relation with the concrete block section by the mortar layer joint, forming, as it were, amonolithic joinder betweenthe veneering brick wall section and the recessed spacing Webs of the concrete Wall section, thus providing an effective bonding means, a component element of the wall sections themselves, incapable of rusting away or otherwise becoming disintegrated.
The concrete blocks at the right and center'y mentioned, as bonding is 'only i'iecess'a'ry at 'f bonds may be interposed alternately With the stretchers of the same row, I have only illustrated one blind bond 6 at the end of the top row opposite one of the abutting lateral Webs. So also I have shown other blind bonds 6 and true header bonds 7 at different positions in the Wall simply by Way of illustration, it being understood that in actual Wall construction the rows of headers may be inserted in every several courses of brick, as desired.
I claim as my invention In a Wall construction, a concrete section composed of a series of building blocks, comprising a flat base having a pair of lateral spacing Webs of the same depth as said base 'and spaced at a distance from the ends thereof, and substantially similar intermediate building blocks, one of the Webs of Which latter blocks is formed with a recess at its upper end; in combination with a Veneer section composed of a series of bricks having their sides resting fiat against the end faces of said spacing Webs; and a series of Whole tie-bricks transversely laid in the veneer section, during building operations, with one of their ends lying Wholly between and flush with the adjacent bricks of the same course and their other ends projecting in an opposite direction to said spacing Webs and seated in bonded relation with the aforesaid recesses, the said recesses being of a depth and Width congruent with the crosssectional dimensions of saidvbricks, and the several elements functioning in comblned relation, substantially as described.
