In one form the top 84 is held in a raised position by a jointed strut 92, 93, the telescopic legs 85 being counterbalanced by weights 90 suspended on cords 91 passing over pulleys 89. In another form the top is supported at the highest or in intermediate positions by means of a number of slots hingedly connected together, preferably by canvas lengths.
