Abstract

Locks, square-key and like.-In a fastening for sliding doors &c. a hollow fitting on one door carries an axially slidable and rotary bolt which engages a recess in the door frame; or another sliding door. The hollow fitting a, secured to a door by the screw-nut d, contains the sliding bolt e which has an enlarged head e<2>, between which and the nut is housed a spring n for retracting the bolt. The head e<2> has a shallow slot f, in which fits the end k' of the operating-key k by means of which the bolt is pushed into the recessed member p. During the forward travel of the bolt, a stud m in the hollow fitting travels down a groove g in the bolt-head. If the bolt is rotated through 180‹ after it has been projected, the stud m engages a small recess h in the bolthead, holding the bolt against withdrawal by its spring n, and rotation is prevented until the key is again inserted and the bolt pushed forward slightly, to release the stud m from the recess h, and rotated to bring the stud again in line with the groove g. A disc a journaled at the end of the hollow fitting has a slot o for the key and rotates with it.
