Abstract

173,626. Sadgrove, W. H. Oct. 11, 1920. Hoods and opening tops.-In motor road vehicles of the kind comprising a rigid hood or roof provided with an extension and designed to revolve or disappear within the body proper as described in Specification 139,847, the moulding g at the top of the body sides is hinged along an horizontal axis h so that it can be turned closely against the side of the raised hood b or turned outwards to provide clearance while the hood is being lowered. The flap f that covers the back opening through which the hood is lowered has a strip g<2> hinged to it at f<1>, and strips g<1> are hinged at g<3> to the ends of the strip g<2>, these strips g', g<2> serving to fill the spaces between the back seat e and the flaps g, f when the hood is lowered.. When the hood is raised, the strips g<1> are turned under the strip g<2>, and this strip is turned under the flap f as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The extension of the hood b comprises sections i, j, k hinged to the hood and to one another at l, w, n, the hinges being alternately on the top and bottom faces of the extension. To counterbalance the hood and assist in raising it, telescopic spring tubes o of known form, or spring rods, are pivotally connected to the sides of the hood at r and to the body a at p.
