Hoods and opening tops. - In open-to-closed vehicles of the kind comprising an upper structure formed of panels assembled together by hinges and capable of being folded on one another and on the back panel of the body and then turned down into a housing formed at the back of the lower part of the body, the lateral and back panels foldable on one another are independent of the roof, which may be of known kind, and comprise at the junction of the lateral walls with the back wall parts curved, articulated, or flexible in the vertical direction in such a way that the parts can be deformed to embrace the thickness of the lateral walls folded on themselves, while the roof can be maintained if required over the whole length of the body. Fig. 1 shows a vehicle in which the roof is formed of a rigid fixed portion 3 and a portion 4 hinged thereto and adapted to be swung into the position shown in dotted lines. The rear wall 6 has hinged thereto at 12, Fig. 2, panels 10 which may be flexible or composed of a number of narrow panels hinged to each other at 9 to form the rounded corners. The panels 10 are hinged to the side walls comprising panels 7, windows 8, and, if desired, windows 19 hinged together so as to be folded on to the rear wall 6 and with it folded down into a recess 15 having a hinged cover 16. Fig. 4 shows a folding top for use with the side and rear panels and comprising two hoops 24, 25 hinged together at 46 and supported by a folding pillar 27 and hinged back stay 35. When folded down into the position shown in dotted lines, the additional hoop sticks 29, 30 prevent the fabric from being folded between the frame members of the hood frame and allow it to be detached and stored away. The Specification, as open to inspection, under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a folding roof having panels 39 - - 41, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), the outer panels being folded on to the centre one and with it folded down on to the respective side panels before the latter are folded back. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
