Abstract

Reciprocating or oscillating sieves. - Oscillating sieves carried by a pivoted triangular frame and reciprocated by a crank or eccentric are mounted so that perpendiculars from the pivotal point fall outside the perforated portions of the sieves towards the front ends to which the material is travelling, the vertical component of the radial movement thus decreasing as these ends are reached. Damping arrangements, comprising sets of opposed spiral springs, are provided to overcome inertia effects. A series of sieves 4 - - 9 are carried in a casing 1 pivoted on a shaft 2 by angularly arranged legs 3 so situated that perpendiculars from the shaft 2 to the sieves fall outside the fronts of the sieves. The material to be sieved is fed over a plate 20 which may be partly replaced by a grid 21 for the removal of dust. Plates 24 - - 29 are provided to collect the various grades of material from the sieves, the product from the lowest sieve passing, if need be, through a grid 22 into a shoot 30 to which the dust separated by the grid 20 may be communicated by a passage 31. To prevent too rapid a movement along the sieves, angle-pieces 34 - - 39 are mounted thereon. Movement is imparted to the sieve by a crank or eccentric through a rod 48 which may be rotated by hand, mechanically, or by a motor 43. The damping-device comprises a series of springs 44, 45 placed on either side of a fixed support 46 and surrounding the rod 48.
