Abstract
173,083. Scrutton, H. E. Sept. 28, 1920. Frame construction; springs, arrangement of; suspending bodies; push-bars. -Relates to perambulators &c. having an underframe consisting of a central longitudinal member a carrying axles c and formed with upwardly turned ends a<1>, a<2> to which are secured transverse members f from which the body i is suspended, one or both ends a<1>, a<2> being in addition provided with an independent handle. According to the invention, the body is suspended by short springs, straps, &c. directly connected to the body and to the ends of the transverse members f. As shown, the members f, which may be formed of resilient strips, are curved inwardly and upwardly at their ends f<1>, f<2> which are slotted to receive straps g connected to pins h on the body i. The handle m, preferably T-shaped, is adjustably secured in the end a<3> of the member a by means of a clip n, and is prevented from turning by the engagement of a pin on the part a<3> with a slot in the stem 'of the handle. The underframe is strengthened by trusses r, s. In a modification, the transverse members aretubular and are connected to the body by coil springs, which may be encased in a rubber or other sheath. Transverse rods passing through the body may be substituted for the pins h.
