Abstract
172,122. Medway, E. M., Smith, E. C., and Medway, A. S. Sept. 1, 1920. Electric braking.-A motor 1 is stopped or slowed down by placing a load upon a generator 2 coupled to the motor. When the motor is running fast and the controller handle is moved to its "slow" position solenoid switches 7, 10 are energized to place load resistances 5, 6 across the generator 2, to disconnect the motor through relays 11, 12, and to energize the brake magnet 13. When the motor is running slower, movement of the controller handle energizes the switch 7 only to place the load resist ances 5, 6 across the motor. A solenoid 9 operates to cut out the resistance 5. The solenoids 7, 10 may be controlled by switches 16, 17 actuated by ramps fixed to the lift well.
