Abstract

171,820. Gerard, I. J. Sept. 13,1920. Locking nuts. - A lock-nut is formed from a bored and tapped length of hexagonal bar 4, of spring steel &c., having a radial alignment-hole 5 in an interrupted side. The interrupted parts 6, 7 are offset axially and partially closed together, and the ends of the nut so formed are faced while screwed on a bolt of smaller diameter. In use, a tapered plug or ball is used to align the interrupted parts, and the nut is operated by a spanner, the aligning-tool being removed just before the nut beds into the work.
