Abstract

171,563. Wallace, G. W. Sept. 24, 1920. Discharging; cooling discharged materials. - The perforated central gas outlet ducts B of vertical retorts A have formed on them flanges 8 which support the charge while in the retorts and while the residue is being withdrawn upwards from the retorts. A cable 11 provided with a hook 12 to engage an eye 13 on the top of the retort cover is lowered from a crane 10 and the charge is withdrawn upwardly into a shell 14 carried by the crane and serving to protect the hot residue from oxidation, and is conveyed away to be quenched, which may be effected by admitting water or steam into the shell prior to the discharging of the coked material.
