Abstract

137,674. Bates, W. J., and Bates, W. R. March 13, 1919. Hydrogen.-In retorts for the manufacture of hydrogen from spathic ore the charge is contained in perforated or openwork cages of different mesh suitable for different grades of ore. The cages are preferably arranged in a vertical retort so that the coarsest material is at the bottom, and the finest at the top of the retort. Expanded metal may be used for the body and bottom of a cage, and a removable lid d is provided to close the top during transport. A flange or projection j may be provided to fit into the top of the cage next beneath it in the retort, and eyes h are fitted for engagement with a lifting and lowering appliance. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 12117/12.
