Abstract

171,175. Tomkinson, J. H. Aug. 11, 1920. Saddles.-A saddle for motor-cycles &c. consists of a pneumatic cushion 4 of ordinary saddle shape mounted upon a correspondingly-shaped base-plate 1, which is entirely straight or flat in transverse section and is formed at its edge with a downwardly projecting right-angled flange or ledge 2; a cover 7 with uninterrupted vertical sides envelops the cushion and is laced as shown at 16, to the flange of the plate. The cushion has one or more stiffening-tubes 6. The plate may carry right-angle brackets for use in conjunction with a clip for attaching the saddle to the saddle pillar; or, as shown, the attachment clip 13 may be carried by bars 14 connected to the lower ends of right-angle brackets 11. According to the Provisional Specification, in the case of a large saddle for motor-cycles, two or more pneumatic cushions with two or more covers may be used, and clips may be employed in lieu of lacing.
