Rotating-tool machines. - A combined rotary and axial reciprocatory motion is imparted to the cylindrical working tool or roller of a buffing or like leather-working machine. As shown in Fig. 1, the tool spindle driven by belts 17<a> from the shaft 18, is simultaneously reciprocated in its bearings 2 by a bell crank lever 11 one arm of which carries hardened segments 6 engaging a circumferentially grooved collar 3 in the spindle, the other arm being connected through a link 13 to a crank 15 on a spindle 16 mounted in a bracket 17 and driven by a belt 19 from the shaft 18. When the reciprocatory motion is not required the belt 19 can be dismounted or a clutch or belt-shifting gear can be provided for this purpose. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 921/81, 5748/95, 18026/02, and 13543/03.
