Abstract

170,684. Goold, L. W., (Colmar Burner Co.). July 30, 1920. Fluid-actuated valves.-In a vapour burner 1 a thermally controlled valve 8 prevents the passage of the fuel oil from a hand valve 7 on the supply pipe to the vapour generator 12 when the vapour generator is below a prearranged temperature. The valve 8 comprises a body 14 having inlet and outlet fuel connections 9, 10 the outlet fuel passage leading from an opening 17 in an internal projecting arm 16. The opening 17 is controlled by a needle-valve 29 on a piston 26 pressed by a spring 32 against a diaphragm 24 arranged between a cap 21 and a coupling 20 on the valve body. A nipple 22 on the cap 21 carries a tube 33 which extends parallel to the generator preferably above the burner openings 5 and is coiled around the discharge end of the generator. An aperture 23 in the cap 21 connects the tube 33 with a chamber 25 formed between the diaphragm 24 and the cap 21. The tube 23, nipple 22 and the chamber 33 are filled, preably, with mercury which, when the vapour generator is at the pre-arranged temperature, expands, and acting through the diaphragh 24 and piston 26 moves the needle valve 29 from its seating in the opening 17, thus permitting the passage of the fuel. The needle valve 29 is adjustable in the piston 26 on unscrewing a plug 19 in the valve body so that the pre-arranged temperature may be adjusted.
