Abstract
169,728. Clay, J. R. Oct. 28, 1920. Slings.-Comprises a construction of sling of the type in which the ends of a doubled rope are connected to a carrier fitted with a pulley, while the rope, after being passed round the load, runs over the pulley to form a self-tightening running noose when the looped end is raised by the hook of the hoisting-appliance. In the present construction the ends of the rope 1, Fig. 1, are connected to eyes 6 on a pair of parallel links 4 which are connected by a bolt 3, Fig. 2, which forms the shaft on which one or a pair of pulleys 2 are mounted loosely. Where only one pulley is used, an additional cross-bar is fitted between the links, between the eyes 6 and the pulley shaft. Lubrication channels 7 are provided, and the links project beyond the periphery of the pulleys to secure the latter against damage when the sling is thrown on to the ground.
