Abstract

Fixed-chamber apparatus; varying quantity measured in.-The device which is of variable capacity comprises a fixed piston constituting the top end of a slidable cylinder provided at the lower end with a single orifice for inlet and outlet, means being provided for indicating visually the capacity for each adjustment and for indicating when the chamber is fully charged. The chamber a has an opening n through which fluid is admitted and discharged through a three-way cock or the like. The top rim of the chamber fits into a groove in a ring f which slides on a guide e, a lead seal g preventing tampering. The piston b which is supported by the pipe k clamped to the frame e<1> is fitted fluid-tight into the cylinder by a V-packing h secured by a ring i. An air vent is formed by the pipe k bent as shown and fitted at the outlet with a plug l having a restricted passage m. The chamber is also fitted with a bar o having notches q adapted to be engaged by a spring plunger p. In use, the cylinder is adjusted to the notch corresponding to the quantity it is required to measure, and the fluid admitted until it escapes at l. The three-way cock is then turned to discharge.
