Abstract

168,488. Innes, J. July 17, 1920. Liquid-pressure engines. - In hydraulic motors and pumps of the radial rotating cylinder type, the cylinders 3, 4, Fig. 1, are connected together in pairs so that the plungers 7, 8 of each pair co-operate with or counteract each other, the plungers 7, 8 being reciprocated by eccentrics 9, 10 respectively. The eccentrics 9, 10 are adapted to be rotated in opposite directions and to equal extents by a hand-wheel 15 through worm and spur gearing, so that the co-operation or counteraction of the plungers of each pair of cylinders can be varied. The outer ends of each pair of cylinders are connected by a chamber 5, each communicating with a port 20 in a valve body rotating with the main shaft 2 inside a fixed casing 27 provided with ports 25, 26, Fig. 4, each of which is connected to balancing chambers disposed to each side of the other port. When the apparatus forms a reversing motor, a reversing- valve 41, Fig. 7, is provided and operated from a cam-groove 48 in a worm-wheel 14 driven from the handwheel 15, the arrangement being such that the valve is closed slightly before the eccentrics have been moved into the position for the plungers of each pair of cylinders to agree in phase, and reversed when the eccentrics have passed this position.
