168,372. Howorth, F. W., (Vapor Car Heating Co., Inc.). May 25, 1920. Couplings, disconnectible.-An all-metal articulated coupling for train pipes, either steam or air, has universal joints O<1>, P<1> connected to the coupler heads L<1> by elbow pipes M<1> and to oneanother by straight tubular members N'. Continuity is maintained through the universal joints by flexible corrugated tubular diaphragms, suitably held in the yokes of the joint and made in. two parts 71a, 71b, Fig. 18, held to one another and to a pivoted supporting element 67 so as tolimit the flexure impossible. Springs, such as 47, may be fitted in such a way as to keep the coupler heads off the ground when in disconnected positions. Such springs may be in the form of stout helical springs surrounding the tubular diaphragms.
