Abstract

Grates.-Revoluble grates of the kind described in the Parent Specification are divided into two fuel zones or compartments by .gratings, the space between which is divided by a partition into passages for supplying air to the fuel in one compartment and for .the escape of gases distilled from the fuel in the other. In the form shown in Fig. 2 parallel gratings j, j' divide the revoluble cylindrical grate a into two fuel .compartments m, m<1>. The space ibetween the gratings is divided by a partition k into paasages l, l<1>, the former serving to supply air through the grating j to the fuel in the compartment m, and the latter for passage of gases distilled from fresh fuel in the lower compartment m<1>. The gases pass out at the upper end of the passage l<1> and are consumed in the passage g, air being supplied through a passage or passages n. One or more openings o are preferably formed in the gratings to form a communication between the fuel compartments. In the grate shown in Fig. 5, the partition k is pivoted so as to retain its position relative to the two fuel compartmentswhen the grate is inverted.
