Abstract
168,264. Hearson, H. R. Oct. 13, 1920. Sights.-Consists in a vertically - adjustable sight-block in which is seated a plug which is adjustable about a vertical axis so as to bring any one of a number of angularly separated apertures in the plug into alignment with an aperture in the block. The apertures may be in the same or in different horizontal planes. The sight may be enclosed in a hood having an aperture coinciding preferably with the aperture for the shortest range. In the form shown, a base b, slidable laterally for windage in the breech-end a, has an aperture e screw-threaded to receive a sleeve f elevatable by turning a milled collar g. The interior of the sleeve f is oppositely screwthreaded to receive the screwed stem h of a sight block i keyed against rotation, and perforated by sighting-apertures m<1>, m<2> in different horizontal planes. Mounted in the block i is a plug j, rotatable round its vertical axis, and perforated by apertures l<1>, l<2>, l<3>, the apertures l<1>, l<2> being of different diameters, and disposed at an angle to each other in the horizontal plane of the aperture m<1>, while the aperture l<3> is disposed in the horizontal plane of the aperture m<2>. Any number of angularly displaced apertures may be employed in the plug in either plane. Either of the apertures l<1>, l<2> may be used in conjunction with the elevating-collar g for ordinary ranges, the aperture l<3> being reserved for extreme ranges. A spring detent k holds the plug in any of its angularly adjusted positions, and a click spring is provided for indicating range adjustments. A detachable cap having apertures in alignment with the aperture m<1> encloses the sight.
