Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act] Vices are formed with exchangeable gripping- surfaces, the jaws also being exchangeable so as to enable them to be readily replaced when worn, or to extend further the range of gripping-surface that can be employed. As shown, jaws 14 of polygonal section are mounted so as to be angularly adjustable in forks 13 carried by pivoted arms 1, 2. The jaws 14 are secured in position by bolts and nuts 15 and can be readily replaced or rotated to bring into position a serrated jaw 16, Fig. 4, or a plane jaw 17 with a V-groove 18, or a similar jaw with a round groove 20 according to the profile of the work, or a jaw with a plane surface. The arms 1, 2 are operated by a screwed bolt 11 and nut 12, the bolt 11 being formed with a plane part 9 provided with a rectangular aperture through which the work can pass. The work can also pass between the pivotal axis of the arms 1, 2, which are pivoted together by a pair of short pins 3 connected to apertures in the arms by means of a conical head and a head which is riveted over after the parts are assembled.
